Colon Cleansing Diet – The Top Foods for Cleansing the System

If you have been experiencing mysterious symptoms of fatigue or a lack of energy in general, the culprit could be an excessive build-up of waste products in your colon. This is more common than people realize, and is the result of a modern diet that is heavy on processed food and toxins in the environment. To help combat this, a colon cleansing diet should be followed from time to time. Ranging from a time period of only a couple of days to longer terms, when followed properly a colon cleansing diet can make a world of difference in your energy levels and youthful appearance.

Colon Cleanse DietAs scientists and nutritionist continue to conduct research into the various cleansing properties of different foods, what they have discovered is that the best colon cleansing diet is oftentimes the simplest. The same foods that were consumed by our ancestors are the ones that the body craves to keep slim, trim, and energized. It’s actually the overload of processed sugars and fats, along with chemicals and toxins in the environment that have led to the buildup of waste in so many digestive tracts across the world. To get started with a colon cleansing diet, then, it’s a good idea to begin by eliminating any processed food.

Other items to eliminate, at least temporarily when following a colon cleansing diet include alcohol, tobacco, caffeinated beverages, and refined sugars. Increasing the consumption of water will help increase the digestive process and keep the body hydrated. There are some elements that you could add to the water in a colon cleansing diet to facilitate this detoxification process, including cayenne pepper and lemon juice, which is part of the popular “lemonade diet” or “master cleanse.” That has been shown to raise the body’s metabolism, burning fat and increasing digestive frequency, which works in tandem with the rest of the colon cleansing diet.

However, a proper colon cleansing diet is not only about deprivation or elimination of harmful refined products. Increasing your consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables will help stimulate bowel movements, and the roughage of the fiber in these items bulks up stools for easy removal. Tropical fruits in particular have been shown to be particularly effective in this regard, such as papaya and pineapple. These colon cleansing diet elements can then also be combined with herbs that have a mild laxative effect, such as psyllium and senna leaf. By attacking the problem from several angles, a good colon cleansing diet will provide quick and effective relief.
