Colon Cleansing Methods – Exploring the Options

The benefits of colon cleansing have been well documented since ancient times, and though the colon cleansing methods have changed throughout the ages, the basic concept and theories behind the practice haven’t. The idea is that over time, there can be a buildup of toxins and waste products within the colon, or large intestine. To help prevent this from weighing a person down or even leading to illness, it’s important to remove the buildup of waste from time to time. This can be achieved with any number of different colon cleansing methods, ranging from dietary changes, to fasting, to the use of laxatives.

Colon Cleansing MethodsThe most extreme examples of colon cleansing methods that has continuously gone in and out of fashion over the years yet continues to endure is that of enemas. These procedures, also known as colon hydrotherapy, are usually administered at a colon care center or other clinic. Some spas or massage therapy centers will also assist with this. With these types of colon cleansing methods, a high volume of water is pumped into the rectum, filling the entirety of the colon, and then sucked back out. When the liquid is removed, it takes with it any waste products or stubborn debris that may have been clinging to intestinal walls.

Other popular colon cleansing methods include the use of colon cleansing supplements, or laxatives. These may be composed of a variety of different materials, but generally are botanical in nature. Some of the most frequently utilized herbs include senna leaf, rhubarb, ginger root, and psyllium husks. These are available in pill form, suppositories, or in tea form. The appeal of these types of colon cleansing methods is that they are natural, effective, and the dosage can easily be adjusted according to what you think you might need.

The final colon cleansing methods are those that are more dietary in nature. These may simply involve removing all processed foods from the diet, or trying to eliminate red meat, refined sugar, alcohol, or other products along these lines that are known to block the colon and lead to problems down the road. There are more extreme colon cleansing methods that also fall into this category, including fasting on water or juice, or combining the fasting with the intake of herbal supplements as well. Many find that the best way to make use of these various colon cleansing methods is to combine several of them at once, for the most individualized and effective formula.
