But first, let’s review the basics about colorectal cancer.

The Basics About Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer is a term used to describe cancer that affects the large intestine – the colon, and especially the lower part of the colon – the rectum. The exact causes for this type of cancer are still unknown, unfortunately, however, there is a number of risk factors known. These risk factors include old age, family history or medical history involving any type of cancer and especially colon and colorectal cancer, sedentary lifestyle, high-fat and low-fiber diet, etc. The common symptoms include persistent bleeding from the rectum, persistent abdominal pain, cramps, gas, and persistent change in the bowel habits. As for the treatment plans, luckily, there are very efficient treatment plans, both more alternative, involving herbal remedies mostly, and the traditional medical ones. Colorectal Cancer Info

Are You Familiar With Lauric Acid?

The coconut oil is known to have far too many beneficial effects that we can ignore including lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, reducing the amounts of LDL or the bad cholesterol by increasing the amounts of HDL or the good cholesterol, curing urinary and kidney infections and protecting the liver from damage. Well apart from Caprylic and Capric acid, the Lauric acid is the third acid that is contained in the coconut oil. In fact, it is considered that the Lauric acid is the one that adds to the many beneficial effects that the coconut oil has, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Oil Chemist Society. Lauric acid is a medium-length long-chain fatty acid that is found in large amounts in the coconut oil. Actually, the Lauric acid makes up half of the fatty acids present in the coconut oil.

Can The Lauric Acid Really Be Used To Cure Colorectal Cancer?

In our opinion, this is a very sensitive topic that already has many contradictive opinions about it. Some of the professionals say that the chances that the Lauric acid can actually cure colorectal cancer are impossible, whereas others say exactly the opposite thing and believe that this is a topic that deserves far more research in the future. You see, the treatment for a condition such as colorectal cancer tends to be very expensive and the coconut oil is nothing in the compartment. So to think that something as cheap as coconut oil can actually help you to treat your colorectal cancer and save a lot of money causes strong headaches among the pharmaceutical companies to even think that they can lose so much money.

Coconut Oil for Colorectal Cancer

If you ask us, the research that has been done until now is very promising. Although we are only talking about an in vitro study. You probably have heard this term before – in vitro. In vitro is a term used to describe an experiment that has been performed using cells in a Petrie dish, without any human test subjects. On the other hand, in vivo study uses exactly the opposite – human test subjects. But since the researchers are so expensive there are not enough money to perform an in vivo experiment to test out if the Lauric acid really has the ability to kill off the colorectal cancer cells. The study that has been done until know has been published in the Journal of Chemotherapy in 2013. This study showed that the Lauric acid has the ability to kill off over 90% of the colorectal cancer cells within only 48 hours. For the purpose of this study, a rat’s intestine cell line has been used. You must admit that the results are surprising. However, for the Lauric acid to be pronounced as an official efficient treatment option for colorectal cancer, first it requires a full in vivo experiment to be performed. And in order to do that, more money are needed. But because this kind of experiments are usually funded by the big pharmaceutical companies, and since we are not talking about a drug or medicine, but of the simple coconut oil, no pharmaceutical company has been interested in the fund this kind of research until now. So what we are left off are the promising results of the study that we mentioned before and the thought that we may have a cure for such a big health issue that colorectal cancer is, and we cannot fully use it still.

Conclusion

Colorectal cancer is a health issue that brings more and more concerns each year with its growing number of new patients. So when we found out that there is a cheap yet efficient treatment option that you can try, we could not keep that only for ourselves and instead of we have shared with you. We are talking about the beneficial effects of the Lauric acid, one of the fatty acids found in the coconut oil, against the colorectal cancer cells in the body. And although there is only an in vitro study to think about, the results sure sound promising and we are hoping that there will come a day soon when this topic will be fully tested and determined if the Lauric acid could be used to treat colorectal cancer or not.
