Colon Cleanse Detox – The Benefits of Detox Programs

By - Updated Oct 20, 2014

You may have heard others talking about taking up a colon cleanse detox as part of their health program, but may not be clear on what this entails and how it can benefit the body. There are actually several different reasons why a colon cleanse detox could be beneficial. All of these colon cleansing products are operating on the assumption that a buildup of toxins and waste material within the colon is unnatural and harmful to the system in several different ways, and so this is where the major benefits kick in for those who follow this type of program.

Colon Cleanse DetoxOne of the biggest benefits, noticeable immediately once you have decided to go through a colon cleanse detox, is the elimination of built-up waste. While the estimates of just how much stagnant waste can lie dormant in the colon can vary, it can actually be ten pounds or more. The first benefit of a colon cleanse detox plan then, is clearly to get rid of this pent-up waste material. Relieving constipation is something that many people struggle with. The modern diet is rich in processed foods, dairy and meat products, and refined sugars that are all difficult for the body to process.

Another benefit that goes along with this is weight loss, because when these excess pounds of waste material are excreted from the body, water and solid weight is dropped as well. This is actually one of the main motivations for many people to go through a colon cleanse detox. However, it should actually be secondary to the other health benefits. These include an increase in energy levels and a greater sense of well-being overall. If other digestive symptoms, including diarrhea or stomach cramping, have been plaguing you, they may go away after a colon cleanse detox.

There are varying levels of severity that a colon cleanse detox might entail. Some require fasting, while others will simply require cutting out processed foods and replacing them with whole grains, fruits and vegetables. These various colon cleanse detox programs can be adapted to suit the needs of the individual. If you have any questions about what might be the best program for your current physical state, it is a good idea to consult a health care professional. Additionally, if new to the world of detox programs, it’s best to start with the gentler end of the spectrum, to let your body ease into this.
