Constipation (from the Latin constipo, to press or crowd together) is defined by Dorland’s Medical Dictionary as an “infrequent or difficult evacuation of the faeces.” What causes constipation? What food must be avoided?
According to Reader’s Digest issued on April 1983, stated that too many people, embracing the latest shortcut to slimness, end up instead on a quick trip to poor health-or worse Frederick J. Stare, M.D. and Elizabeth M. Whelan stated.
So we are often influenced on what we see on TV, the Internet or what we hear on the radio about celebrities or other personalities who indulged themselves in what we call modern lifestyle or in other words “fad diet?”
The question is, is it really essential nowadays for people like us to indulge in this kind of practice?
One of the examples of modern lifestyle or fad diet is what we call ketogenic diet which is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet used to treat intractable epilepsy.
According to Eric Berg DC, who is a 52-year-old chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional and natural methods explains ketosis in way like avoiding sugar or glucose for 10 to 12 hours in order to burn more fats.
He stated that your body produces ketones that are basically by-products of fat burning. You can test yourself in ketones by checking in a drug store and it is called ketone strip Berg said. Ketones come from different shades of purple he said.
If it is dark purple then it is a major ketosis if it is light purple it is minor ketosis but you can also check if you are burning fats.
Although Ketogenic diet is not necessarily harmful to you yet it is still one of the major causes of constipation.
Some says that lack of fibre causes constipation which is not true according to Eric Berg which he stated in his video on YouTube entitled Ketosis & Constipation.
He stated that you must look what you did before and look what you did after like if you have eaten too much red meat, all you have to do is regulate and shift to other type of meal like food which are rich in fibre and one thing he recommends are vegetables and fruits.
So the real case in constipation is caused on what you are eating not on what you are not eating.
It is also stated to avoid constipation is to avoid processed food for it is one of the main causes of constipation. One of the examples is canned food like tuna, sardines or any food that has been made in the factories which looks like real food.
Natural food is important which are seen in the farm, field and forests. So always prepare a list before you go to a grocery store to avoid confusions.
Make a separate list on what you decide to buy, yet you can still buy processed food provided to consume it later when you don’t feel constipated anymore.
Another type of modern lifestyle is liver detoxification which is a process of eating food which is high in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and nutrients in cleansing the liver.
According to livestrong, the liver absorbs many of the toxins that enter the body.
A detox, or cleanse, removes built-up toxins and allows the liver to perform important bodily functions, including manufacturing proteins, processing fats, eliminating biochemical waste and detoxifying the body and bloodstream.
Although there can be side effects in resorting to this diet, Curbing caffeine consumption can lead to headaches. Toxin elimination through the skin and bloodstream can lead to body odor, breakouts, body aches and fatigue.
Any sudden change in diet may result in temporary constipation. Stick with the detox plan because in the long term, a liver detox will minimize the daily occurrence of headaches, breakouts, fatigue and constipation.
There are foods to avoid while constipated these are:
- Dairy Products
- Red Meat
- Frozen Dinners
- Fried Food
Also people nowadays are susceptible to what we call “Western Diets” and it is spreading across the world according to cnn.com. It is characterized by a high intake of red meat, refined sugar and saturated fats.
One of the examples are going to a fast food restaurant which serves all beef meals or perhaps fast food chains like McDonald’s or consuming candy bars or drinking anything that causes sugar these are examples of Western Diets.
So do you always eat in a fast food chain or go to a restaurant which serves All-American Beef meals? The lesson is to always regulate and keep watch on what you are eating. These foods are not healthy.
People say prevention is better than cure so it is still important to have a balance diet and most importantly to exercise daily.
Eating food which have probiotics are healthy for they are live bacteria and yeast which are found in food like yogurts and kefir, which is a fermented milk drink that helps promote healthy digestion.
Ever wonder what’s the best way to do while you are at your desk? Always remember to always bring with you something healthy and always stay hydrated. Always watch your diet while doing work at your desk.
